Our interests are in the study of biomolecular structure, dynamics and recognition, both as a fascinating area of 'pure' science and for its potential applications, particularly in the area of medicinal chemistry. Our key methodology is molecular modelling, but we also apply a range of 'wet' biophysical techniques to complement and validate the predictions from our modelling studies.
Many of our projects are collaborative ventures with other research groups, both within the School of Pharmacy and in other departments. This gives students the opportunity to undertake projects that combine elements of modelling and biophysics with (for example) molecular biology or medicinal chemistry. The group, led by Dr. Charles Laughton, forms part of the Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Structural Biology in the School of Pharmacy at Nottingham.
